Today our clinic reviewed about the tensor fasciae latae muscle, which works as a group within the well known iliotibial tract or iliotibial band (IT band). This muscle’s main function is to perform abduction, flexion, and internal rotation of the hip joint.
When this muscle overused and contracted, it’ll cause referred pain around the hip joint and shoots down along the later aspect of the leg concentrating over the greater trochanter, resulting in the patient being unable to sit for a long period of time, walk fast or lying down on the painful side.
This problem is mostly found in bikers, people who sit in low and unergonomic chair for a long time, and people who suffer from flat foot. Therefore, we should avoid being in bad posture and stretch regularly to prevent this muscle from injury or strain.
At Pain Away Clinic we always strive to improve ourself in order to provide better service for our patients. If you have any question feel free to contact us or call 02-258-1361.
