Many patients who visit the Pain Away Clinic suffer from headaches. **Ninety percent** of these patients experience improvement with Pain Away treatments. These treatments include muscle relaxation, acupuncture, laser therapy, posture correction, CBD oil, and more. In some cases, it is better to have an MRI or CT scan at a hospital, but 90% of symptoms are caused by muscle stiffness, tension, stress, poor posture, or autonomic nerve imbalance. Here, I would like to explain two common types of headaches.

Migraine

A migraine is a throbbing, pulsating pain caused by the expansion of blood vessels. The pain typically occurs around the temples and eyes, with attacks lasting for several days. Although it often affects one side of the head, it can sometimes occur on both sides. During an attack, you may become sensitive to light, sound, and smell. Some people also experience flashes of light before the pain begins.

It is said that migraines are more common in women due to the influence of female hormones, and they are particularly likely to occur in women in their 20s and 40s. Migraines are a common condition, affecting about one in three or four people in Japan.

Cluster Headache

Although rare, cluster headaches are among the most painful types of headaches. They are most common in men in their late 20s to 40s, and rarely affect women. This type of headache is characterized by severe pain behind one eye, often described as feeling like being “pierced with an ice pick” or “hit with a hot iron.” The pain typically occurs at a specific time each day, usually from midnight to early morning, and lasts for 1 to 2 hours.

Unlike migraines, where movement can intensify the pain, cluster headache sufferers often feel relief by moving or writhing during an attack. The eye on the affected side may become red, and additional symptoms like a runny nose, nasal congestion, sweating, or tearing may also occur. These attacks usually repeat nightly for 1 to 2 months, a period known as the “cluster period.”

If you experience these symptoms, we recommend seeking a diagnosis at a medical institution. Ninety percent of patients see improvement with treatment.
