Acupuncture and Dry Needling
Alternative Pain Relief through Traditional Chinese Medicine
While we pride ourselves in experimenting with and promoting new types of pain treatment options, it is impossible to deny the effectiveness of Acupuncture as an alternative therapeutic technique. Acupuncture is backed by scientific research and medical journals and is today widely known for its positive results when it comes to pain relief and stress reduction.
Acupuncture at our clinic is conducted with sterilized medical-grade needles that are so tiny that they do not cause pain at all, and these are applied at certain points on the body to alleviate pain and help treat various health conditions. We use acupuncture to treat hundreds of customers a week and are confident you will be more than satisfied with our services.
What is Acupuncture? How does it Work?
Originating in China with use in Traditional Medicine approximately 3000 years ago, Acupuncture is the science of healing and pain relief by the activation and stimulation of certain Acupuncture points, or Acupoints, on the body. Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on an ancient philosophy regarding two opposing forces that the body tries to balance: yin and yang. When both yin and yang are in balance, the body is healthy. However, when the flow of energy is blocked through disruptions in Acupoints, this can lead to pain.
Therefore, Acupuncture really is about the stimulation of these Acupoints to restore balance to yin and yang in the body. This promotes a better flow of energy and boosts the body’s natural self-healing process. As a result, a state of accelerated healing is achieved.
Modern research has demonstrated acupuncture’s positive effects on the immune, nervous, endocrine, and cardiovascular systems in the body.
The activation and stimulation of these Acupuncture points is often done with fine medical grade needles (0.16-0.20 mm, thin enough not to draw any blood and is mostly painless), that are sterilized and inserted directly into the skin.
The Pain Away Treatment Process: How It Works
Step 1: Preliminary exam and physical diagnosis
A quick preliminary consultation and diagnosis by one of our licensed physiotherapists allow us to quickly rule out all other factors and get to the root causes of your ailments.
Step 2: Pain relief treatment and/or physical therapy
Having a specific diagnosis, we can immediately select which form of treatment is required to provide the fastest pain relief, while supplementing with recovery through physiotherapy.
Step 3: Medical analysis and pain recovery advice
After having gone through the full pain relief treatment, a summary on your condition is given, as well as advice on what you can do to help speed up recovery on your way to wellness.
What Does It Feel Like?
We use the finest medical grade needles (0.16-0.20 mm). These needles are thin enough to not draw any blood and it is mostly painless. As the needle is tapped through the skin, you might feel a slight sensation around the area, but it is more of a “tingling” or “buzzing” feeling, and not so much one of pain.
Sometimes a needle might hit a tiny blood vessel or a nerve ending though, and this could produce a slight sting. When this happens, simply inform our therapist so that it may be repositioned and the sting goes away immediately.
After the initial couple of needles, there should be no more discomfort. Most of our patients generally feel relaxed or even sleepy during the treatment.
